Gratitude Is The New Black

Gratitude is the new black.

~ A Wise Person

I love this statement. There are so many positive ideas associated with the color black. I remember my first “little black dress”. It was the epitome of simple elegance. Older women and some younger ones taught me that you couldn’t go wrong with a “little black dress”. I paired it with some gorgeous black heels, a little black satin purse, and a piece of black kente cloth. The simple gold, burgundy and green design in the cloth from an ancient, esteemed culture raised the sophistication and timeless classiness of my outfit to a new level. And yes, I felt every bit of the classy, sophisticated, and timeless elegance that my ensemble spoke to the world.

Black simply never goes out of style. Not to mention the fact that everybody wants their bank account to be “in the black”. It’s one of those times when the “richness” of black really shines through.

Being “in the black” isn’t only good for our bank account. It’s exactly where we want our energy to be. Research shows that one of the easiest ways to get there is with a gratitude practice. Like black, gratitude never goes out of style. And gratitude has seemingly limitless benefits for our body, mind, and spirit.

Just 21 days of practicing gratitude can improve overall wellness, emotional regulation and sense of meaning. Yes, that means you can increase your happiness, not the kind that disappears when you finish that box of chocolates. But the kind that lasts because you’re more and more aware of everything that you have.

You come to know that more is always possible. Always right here for you. You simply have to notice it and feel grateful.

Gratitude is reciprocity in action. It’s emotional energy fuel. You feel better, more peaceful. And that feeling spreads to your body and spirit. The more we notice our good, the more we open for good to come to us. The more we open for good, the more opportunity we give ourselves to be grateful.

It’s Black Friday, a day when businesses are working on putting their accounts “in the black”. They’ve got deals for us. Many are aiming to create a win-win. They sell us something we really want at an affordable price and in return they increase their financial gain.

This is a good day to increase our commitment to putting our energy “in the black”. Join us for “Gratitude is the new black”. For 21 days, choose 1 – 3 things that you’re grateful for each day. Post them on Facebook or Instagram and use the hashtag, #Gratitude21.
